It’s
that time of year and once again several outstanding LCHS athletes
are headed to the IHSA Class 2A Girls State Track and Field
Championships at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston this
weekend.
The team competed at the IHSA Class 2A TRG Sectional at Metamora
last Wednesday with six Lincoln girls qualifying for the state meet
this weekend.
Senior Becca Heitzig leads the pack with another visit to EIU, her
fourth consecutive trip to State.
Heitzig qualified in three individual events and a relay team.
She qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:20.31. She qualified in
the 1600m with a time of 5:06.61. In both of these races Heitzig
finished in first place.
Heitzig also made it in a new event for her, the 300m Hurdles. In
this event she finished in third place at Sectionals with a time of
46.90.
Heitzig joins Mallory Short, a junior who is making a return to
State, on the 4x400m Relay team. They are joined by two incredible
sophomores, Kyli Lund and Grace Schneider. Lund and Schneider also
ran at State last year. Natalie Geary is the alternate for the relay
team.
