Congratulations to Dylan Gowin, Jack Haynes, Keegan Brown, and Kaylee Cogdill, along with their instructor, Mr. Donnie Bowman. Students will travel to Washington DC June 11-13, 2024. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and the SIFMA Foundation will host the ten-top-performing CHC teams at a reception in the U.S. Capitol on June 12. The students will also have the opportunity to meet with their members of Congress and attend an award ceremony.

CHC features the acclaimed Stock Market Game™ program, which, virtually or in the classroom, serves 600,000 public, private, and parochial school students annually, including 300,000 girls, 250,000 students from economically disadvantaged communities, and 200,000 students of color. CHC student teams manage a hypothetical $100,000 online portfolio of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, impact investments, and cash. They learn integral workplace skills such as collaboration and critical thinking and improve their personal financial behavior and standardized test scores in math and economics.

On Saturday, local historian Bill Donath was the guest speaker at the first event of the Lincoln Public Library Sesquicentennial year of events. He shared several interesting details including that the library was founded as a temperance movement with the hopes that it and reading would take the place of saloons, pool halls and barber shops.

It was also shared that the library was housed in several locations prior to the construction of the Carnegie building, including city hall.

Learn more about the library in today’s edition of Lincoln Daily News.
