[May 22, 2024]

Beginning the week of June 3rd, construction will begin on a bridge north of Emden. The bridge carries 600th Avenue over Prairie Creek Ditch and is located about ¼ mile north of US 136. The road will be closed to traffic during construction, which will last until late July.

The existing bridge is 49 feet long and was built in 1988. The bridge was constructed with concrete deck beams. Those beams have developed structural cracks and need to be replaced.

The bridge deck will be completely removed and riprap will be placed to control further erosion. New concrete deck beams and new guardrail will be installed. A new asphalt overlay will be placed over the bridge.

The project was awarded to County Contractors, Inc. located in Quincy, Illinois. The low bid on the project was $353,891. State bridge funds will be used for 80% of the cost. Logan County, Orvil Township, and Prairie Creek Township will use local property tax funds to split the remaining 20% local share.
