Seven Cross Country athletes are headed to the IHSA Class 2A Sectional meet in Olney on Saturday.

Preston Short, Pierce King, Colin Crombie, Levi Allison, and Grant Eales will represent the boys team at Olney.

Morgan Sheley and Ryann Lile will represent the girls team at Olney.

Coach Andrew Hite said the Boys Class 2A Cross Country regional at Jacksonville was very close last Saturday.

Lincoln finished ahead of Rochester by just two points. Hite noted that the seven Rochester runners actually finished ahead of the Lincoln five, however it showed how far ahead the Lincoln top runners were compared to them.

Hite said the two girls advancing to the sectional meet, Morgan Sheley and Ryann Lile, are first-time cross country runners. Hite added, “It is impressive that they have done so well. They worked very hard all season and they deserve this.”

The boys team is a very young team with a lot of talent.

King is just a freshman while Short, Crombie and Eales are all sophomores. Allison is a junior.

Natalie Geary did not qualify for sectionals but she did finish 44th at regionals with a time of 22:44.61.

Earlier in the season at the Central State Eight Conference meet, Short finished 2nd with a time of 16:06 and King finished 7th with a time of 16:37. Both Short and King earned All-Conference status. The LCHS Cross Country team finished 4th out of 10 teams in the standings.

“This is a fantastic group of kids and I am proud of them,” said Hite.

Good luck on Saturday!
