Lincoln traveled to Morton on Friday to take on the Lady
Potters in a regular season game. While the Lady Potters had the
height advantage and more Varsity experience in the lineup, it was
actually two sophomores who led the team in scoring. Paige Selke
(17) and Abby VanMeenen (10) were unstoppable in the lane and helped
keep Lincoln down and out as the final score was 60-25.
First Quarter
The Lady Potters used their quickness to run out to a 9-0 lead.
Makinley Knapp put Lincoln on the board at the 4:23 mark with two
points in the lane. Twenty seconds later Lincoln found themselves
down 12-2 after Selke drained a three. With Lincoln just sinking
three free throws for the remainder of the quarter, the Lady Potters
held a 17-5 lead when the quarter ended.
Second Quarter
The lead grew to 22-5 before Knapp’s second field goal of the game
at the 4:53 mark. Ceana Adams scored the next two baskets for
Lincoln, each on drives to the basket. Adams cut the lead to 22-11
before picking up her third foul. The Lady Potters added a couple
buckets to bump the lead back to 26-11. Selke sank two more field
goals with under a minute to go and the Lady Potters lead was 30-12
when the halftime buzzer sounded.
Third Quarter
It was all Morton to start the third quarter, as they ran the lead
up to 38-12. Grace Schneider and Mesa McCloud each made a little
dent in the lead. Schneider on her drive to the bucket at the 1:17
mark and McCloud with her three just under the minute mark. Ellie
VanMeenen answered with a three before the quarter ended and the
Lady Potters 45-18 lead was solid.
Fourth Quarter
Mia Clark will hit a three thirty seconds into the action to make
the score 45-21. But by the 2:35 mark the Lady Potters had outscored
Lincoln 10-2 and a running clock was underway. Anja Ruxow and Katie
Brock completed the scoring for Morton and with 2.4 seconds on the
clock Grey Gilbert completed the scoring for Lincoln. Gilbert’s two
from the corner set the final score at 60-25.
