The
Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois (CAPCIL) is
launching its annual campaign to collect pantry-stable food items
for the creation of “Blizzard Bags” to be delivered to over 200
homebound seniors in Logan and Mason Counties. These bags provide
essential nutrition for seniors during holidays and the coldest
months of the year.
Each year, CAPCIL’s Meals on Wheels program prepares and distributes
“Blizzard Bags” filled with dietitian-approved pantry items,
including canned vegetables and fruit, canned meats, low-sodium
soup, juice, instant oatmeal, multigrain bars, crackers, and
shelf-stable milk. These items ensure seniors have nutritious
options at home during gaps in meal delivery due to holidays or
inclement weather. CAPCIL’s Meals on Wheels team delivers five meals
three days a week, regardless of the weather, along with a wellness
check for each senior.
“Although we do not deliver on Thanksgiving or Christmas, we want to
ensure our seniors have nutritious food options at home,” said
Breann Titus, Chief Visionary Officer at CAPCIL.

To make it easy for the community
to contribute, CAPCIL has set up an Amazon Wishlist containing
all the needed food items for the “Blizzard Bags.” Donors can
purchase the items online, and they will be shipped directly to
CAPCIL’s central office in Lincoln. The deadline for donations
is Tuesday, November 28th.
For questions or more information, please contact Becky Remmert,
Nutrition Services Director, at 217-732-2159 ext. 237.
