The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers golf team competed in the Class 1A Regional tournament at Country Hills Golf Course in Greenview last Wednesday with one golfer from the team advancing to the Sectional tournament.

Aaron Kuznik fired an 80 to finish tied for fourth place and a top five finish, earning him his third medal of the season. More importantly, by finishing as one of the top ten individuals, Kuznik qualified and will be competing in the Sectional Tournament today at Spring Lake Golf Course in Quincy.

According to Hilltoppers golf coach, Jan Bowers, Kuznik has excelled on the course throughout the season. He has consistently been the Toppers top scorer and has set new personal best scores for both 9 and 18-hole matches, which included a 78 for a second place finish and medal at the Tomahawk Conference tournament. Kuznik also earned a medal by finishing in the top ten at the 2024 Ray Toland PORTA Invitational at Shambolee Golf Course.

Bowers said Kuznik’s goals for the season were to shoot in the 70's for 18-holes, in the 30's for 9-holes, and to qualify for the sectional tournament. He accomplished all three goals.

"The improvement and success that Aaron has had this season is a direct result of his self-motivation and dedication to be the best golfer he can be,” said Bowers, proudly. “He works hard during practice, but also puts in extra time on his own on the weekends. Not many athletes are willing to do this.”

Kuznik is also coached by Brooke Charron, who noted that as a coach it makes things a little more special because he’s also her son. Charron said that her son had a good practice on Sunday and that he’s ready to go.

Kuznik will tee off at 11:15 a.m. today.

Fans can follow players on the IHSA App.

A top ten finish today would earn Kuznik a spot in the IHSA Class 1A State Tournament which will be held October 18-19 at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.

Congratulations and best of luck, Aaron!
