[October 03, 2024]  LINCOLN - Wayne Semple, 95, of Decatur, formerly of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his residence.

Visitation:  Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home

Service:  11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home

Obituary

Wayne Semple, 95, of Decatur, formerly of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at his residence.

Wayne was born November 13, 1928, in New Holland, the son of John T. and Lorene K. (Langenbahn) Semple. He attended New Holland High School and Devry Technical Institute in Chicago, receiving his First-Class Federal Communication Licenses. Wayne began working at WAND-TV in 1955 and was chief broadcast engineer from 1964 until his retirement in 1992. He was in the Army National Guard, a Korean War Veteran, an active member of the Charles Parlier Chapter #24 Korean War Veterans Association, and a dedicated member of the Macon County Honor Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Kelly; and two brothers, Darrell and Donald Semple. Surviving Wayne is his stepdaughter, Jena (Schwabe) Borah and three grandchildren, Peter, Margaret, and Melissa. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.

Wayne was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln, IL.

Visitation for Wayne will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am also at the funeral home.

Burial will follow the service at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln with full military rites accorded by the Macon County Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ in Lincoln.
