Heartland Community College cuts
ribbon on Student Services remodel

Heartland Community College is celebrating the
opening of 24,000 square feet of renovated space dedicated to
supporting students outside of the classroom.

 The
first phase of Heartland’s Student Center project, located on the
first floor of the Workforce Development Center (WDC), features new
spaces dedicated to supporting student success and wellbeing.
On Wednesday, October 3, Heartland unveiled a number of these new
spaces including the Penn Family Veterans Center, Styczynski Family
Multicultural Lounge, Chadwick-Walter Project RISE Suite, Woodruff-Feicke
Career Center, Messinger Lounge, and Dr. Sandra Hupp Testing Center
along with a Game Room, Student Leadership office and Student
Engagement office.
The student services ribbon cutting event was a celebration for
Heartland students with food, music, and a “beach ball drop”
accompanying the informal opening of the new spaces. Student Trustee
Auston Koch and student Candice Byrd delivered remarks alongside
Heartland Community College President Keith Cornille.
“Creating this space has been a real community effort and I want to
thank the many folks who have contributed resources to build these
spaces for our students,” said President Cornille. “Heartland
students can come to this Student Center to get what they need to
support their learning, engage with clubs and activities, or
decompress between classes. No matter where they are headed for
class, our Heartland Hawks will know they will find the support they
need inside and outside of the classroom.”

The new student services spaces
join a food service area and lounge which opened last year in
the WDC building. The College has future plans to continue
consolidating student services to include advisement and
enrollment services on the second floor of the building.
