[October 21, 2024]  LINCOLN - Hal E. Read, 89, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at St. Clara’s Rehab & Senior Care in Lincoln.

Visitation:  Lincoln Christian Church from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, 2024

Service:  A private graveside service will be held.

Obituary

Hal E. Read, 89, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at St. Clara’s Rehab & Senior Care in Lincoln.

Hal was the son of Emmett and Thelma (Garber) Read. He married Nancy J. Gleason on November 19, 1961, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She preceded him in death in August of 2023.

Hal is survived by his daughter, Jena M. Read; his brother, Stanley Read; sister-in-law, Margaret Rankin; sister-in-law, Margaret Gleason; and brother-in- law, Paul E. Gleason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; parents, and brother, Russell D. Read.

Hal enjoyed raising livestock and grain on the family farm. He was brought up in the Cumberland Presbyterian church where he later served as an elder. Following his time there, Hal became a member of Lincoln Christian Church. He attended the Beacon Sunday school class and enjoyed the monthly Men’s club meetings hosted by surrounding area churches. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from September 22, 1957- September 23, 1959.

A visitation will be at Lincoln Christian Church from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

A private graveside service will be held.

Memorials may be made in Hal’s name to Lincoln Rural Fire Department.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
