Mahomes needed just 84 yards to eclipse Dawson
-- who finished with 28,507 yards while with the Chiefs -- and
did so in the second quarter when he found tight end Travis
Kelce for a 23-yard pass.
Dawson, a seven-time Pro Bowl quarterback, played 14 of his 19
seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs franchise (including one
season with the Dallas Texans, who moved to Kansas City and
became the Chiefs in 1963). He was selected to the Pro Football
Hall of Fame in 1987.
Mahomes is in his seventh season as Kansas City's starting
quarterback after playing in only one game as a rookie in 2017.
He has been named to six Pro Bowl teams, won two MVP awards and
led the team to three Super Bowl titles since being selected
10th by the franchise in the 2017 NFL Draft.
