Obituary
John Vernon “Vern” Heidbreder, 86, of
Lincoln, passed away on Saturday, September 14,
2024, at Lincoln Village Healthcare.
Vern was born June 20, 1938, in Lincoln, the son of
Henry and Emma (Kopf) Heidbreder. He married Betty
Jo Johnson on March 5th, 1968. She preceded him in
death in 2009.
Vern is survived by
his children: Dave (Fran) Gehrke, Pamela (Kerry
Anderson) Richards, Rhue (Michelle Holloway)
Heidbreder, Kenneth (Heidi) Heidbreder, Julie Wasmus,
and Jeff Heidbreder; 6 grandchildren, his sister
in-law: Kay Thompson, and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife:
Betty Jo, and his four brothers: Henry, Lloyd,
Harold, and August Heidbreder, one grandson: David
Lee Gehrke, and a brother in-law: Ed Thompson.
Vern proudly served his country in the United States
Army for 2 years and the Army Reserves for 6 years
following. He worked as a plumber at Dean Leith
Plumbing for 24 years, and then went to work as a
custodian at Lincoln Christian Church for 8 years
and spent many more years as a custodian at School
District 27 before he retired.

Vern was also a faithful member of
Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln. In his free time,
he enjoyed walking in the park while taking pictures
of the deer and was an avid golfer.
A memorial service for Vern will be held at 12:00 pm
on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Faith Lutheran
Church in Lincoln.
Visitation will take place prior from 10:30 am to
12:00 pm at the church. A private interment will
take place at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln at a later
date.
In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that memorials may be made in Vern’s memory
to the Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln or to the
Alzheimer's Association.
Cremation rites have been
entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln.
