This
year was the first time the event was held in September in an effort
to avoid the heat of midsummer, however the temperature felt solidly
summery all day on Saturday. Previously held in Scully Park, this is
the second year the event has taken place on the newly acquired part
of the church campus, the grassy area between what was the library,
cafeteria, and warehouse of the original blueprint of Lincoln
Christian University.
Family Fun Day featured live music from the church band and other
local musicians, a prayer tent, ten different bounce houses and
inflatables for children, face painting, and free food for everyone.
Lines were long for snow cones in the heat of the afternoon, but
there was also pulled pork, grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn,
and funnel cake fries for hungry guests.
The event was staffed by volunteers from the church and sponsored by
several Lincoln businesses. At a registration table near the parking
lot, volunteers welcomed guests and sold event T-shirts. Open Arms
Christian Fellowship pastor Larry Crawford and other ministry team
members were on hand throughout the day to welcome guests and keep
everything organized.

Pastor Crawford said that the focus
of the event was the church slogan, “This city will live.” He said
that the Family Fun Day is great for individuals and for families.
Its purpose is to bring the community together. He said, “We believe
the best days for Lincoln are ahead. We have to work together. We
work with other churches and area businesses. Next year [this event]
will be bigger and even better.”
Family Fun Day lasted from 11 a.m. until after 5 p.m. At 5:15, there
were giveaways, including $500 in cash for one lucky winner. The day
concluded with a time of worship followed by a sermon and an
invitation to follow Jesus Christ from Pastor Crawford.
