[April 01, 2025]
The Railsplitters offense was on fire Monday night at Morton,
with seven players recording multi-hits as the team pounded out a
season-high 16 hits en route to the 15-5 crushing of the Morton
Potters. The game was over in five innings, as Lincoln recorded
their first win of the season by the ten-run rule.
Lincoln captured a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Grey Gilbert
smacked the first pitch of the game for a single to get the offense
going. A sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly allowed Gilbert to score
the first run of the game. With Kelsey Marten getting hit by a pitch
and Morgan Sheley and Kara Farnam adding singles, the Railsplitters
were able to plate another run.
The Potters scored three times in the bottom of the first inning off
Madisen Wurth, taking the lead.
With Wurth and Lily Holmes quickly getting base hits to start the
second inning, Lincoln was a threat to score. The game was tied
after Emmalyn Splitter scored on a dropped third strike. Laurynn
Mayberry put the first pitch in play for an RBI single in her at-bat
and the Railsplitters were back on top, 4-3. The girls increased the
lead on one hit after another. Marten and Farnam each doubled in the
inning, driving in runs and Sheley added an RBI single. When the
inning ended with an out on the base path, Lincoln was on top 7-3.
Morton was persistent in chipping away at the lead. A two-run homer
in the bottom of the second inning trimmed the lead to 7-5.
Lincoln scored three times in the top of the third inning, all with
two outs. Gilbert’s RBI single added one run. Mayberry’s triple to
center added another. Finally, it was Regan Kutz with an RBI double
and Lincoln’s lead was 10-5.
