Rockets over Railsplitters 14-4 in five innings

[April 09, 2025]   The Railsplitters welcomed the Rochester Rockets to town on Tuesday afternoon and the first inning was pleasant but the rest of the game was not for Lincoln.

A nine-run second inning by the Rockets buried the Railsplitters and the ten-run rule was effect rather quickly with Lincoln falling 14-4

Lincoln took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on three consecutive singles by Ashton Corley, Austin Lucas and Drew Hayes. Hayes was credited with the RBIs.

The Rockets pounded the baseball in the second inning. The inning started with a walk and that was followed by a double, double, single, double, strikeout, single, single, single, triple and yet another single. After the Rockets had scored nine runs in the inning, the Railsplitters got out of the inning when Karson Komnick gunned down a base runner trying to steal second and Austin Lucas struck out the batter to end the misery.

In the bottom of the second inning Lincoln managed to get a run back after Jadyn Gulley’s double, Kyle Koehler’s single and a sacrifice bunt by Lucas.

Rochester added an RBI single in the top of the third inning to keep Lincoln in a 10-3 deficit.

The Rockets found a way to score four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Four singles and a double seemed enough to do the trick.

Parker Graue’s RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning made the score 14-4 but after that Lincoln didn’t seem to have any more gas left in the tank.

The game ended after five innings with Rochester out-hitting Lincoln 18-9.

Ashton Corley and Parker Graue each had two hits for the Railsplitters.

Lucas, Drew Hayes, Owen Comstock, Kyle Koehler and Jadyn Gulley each had one hit.

Lincoln used four pitchers in the game.

Carson Fuiten started the game and worked one and one-third of an inning. He allowed nine hits and nine runs. Fuiten walked one and struck out one.

Austin Lucas pitched two innings, allowing six hits and four runs. He struck out three batters.

Tate Aue pitched one and one-third of an inning, allowing three hits and one run. He struck out two batters.

Brady Miller pitched to the last batter in the fifth inning, retiring him on a ground ball on his only pitch thrown.
