Lincoln defeats Rochester 10-7
[April 09, 2025]
The Railsplitters offense was lit on Tuesday night against
Rochester on their home turf. The Lincoln girls pounded out 15 hits
and scored 10 runs off Rockets pitching, in a game that went extra
innings. Lincoln broke a 7-7 tie in the top of the eighth inning and
held on to win 10-7.
Grey Gilbert, Regan Kutz, Morgan Sheley and Addy Mahler had three
hits apiece to lead the offense.
Kelsey Marten had two hits and Laurynn Mayberry added one hit for
Lincoln.
It’s always a good sign when Grey Gilbert leads off the game with a
double. Mayberry advanced Gilbert to third on a bunt and Kutz had no
trouble jumping on the first pitch for a single, but Gilbert was
held at third. The next batter, Marten, singled Kutz in after
Gilbert scored on the catcher’s error. Lincoln added one more run on
another error, making the score 3-0.
Gilbert’s RBI single in the top of the fourth inning scored Emma
Hutchison and Lincoln grew the lead to 4-0.
The Railsplitters did the same in the top of the fifth inning.
Another run was added when Mahler smacked an RBI single to right.
Rochester broke onto the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of
the fifth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning Kutz decided to get those runs back.
Her two-run double to left scored Gilbert and Mayberry, making the
score 7-2.
Rochester chipped away at the lead, adding two more runs in the
bottom of the sixth inning.
The Rockets came up clutch in the bottom of the seventh inning,
scoring three runs to tie the game 7-7. Two doubles, a single and a
walk were damage enough to send the game into extras.
Talk about clutch hitting. Lincoln came through in the top of the
eighth inning with three runs after two outs were already recorded.

[to top of second column] |

Mayberry got the rally started with a single on a 2-2 count. Kutz
also singled on a 2-2 count. Marten was a bit more anxious in the
batter’s box. She singled on an 0-1 pitch to put Lincoln in front
8-7. Sheley was also down a strike when she singled to make the
score 9-7. Finally, Mahler didn’t waste any time hitting a single,
driving in Eskra with another run. Sheley was out at home trying to
score another run but with the inning over and Lincoln on top 10-7
there was only one left to do.
Time to retire the Rockets in the eighth inning.
Kutz threw nine pitches in the final inning and the Railsplitters
defense held up great. A line out and two ground outs retired the
Rockets and put Lincoln in the win column.

It was a great 10-7 victory against an always tough opponent in
Rochester.
Regan Kutz earned the win for Lincoln. Kutz worked the final two and
two-thirds innings, giving up three hits and three runs. She walked
one and struck out one.
Madisen Wurth started in the circle for Lincoln. Wurth pitched five
and one-third innings, allowing five hits and four runs. Only one
run was earned. She struck out four batters.
Lincoln improved their record to 6-4 on the season.
