Hilltoppers hang on for 10-8 win over North Mac

[April 09, 2025]  The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers continued their 2025 road trip, picking up a 10-8 win over the North Mac Panthers in Virden on Monday night.

Liam Smith’s RBI double was the highlight of a three-run first inning for Mount Pulaski. Three walks and a sacrifice fly also helped the Hilltoppers put runs on the board.

North Mac tied the game by the third inning, only for Mount Pulaski to take the lead on an RBI single by Tyler Cross.

It was then the Panthers turn to take a 5-4 lead.

Aaron Volle’s RBI double put Mount Pulaski back on top 6-5. Carter Clark’s RBI single gave Mount Pulaski a 7-5 lead in the fourth inning.

In the sixth inning Clark’s two-run double did the most damage. Preston Cowan also added an RBI single. The Panthers escaped further damage with Mount Pulaski on top 10-5.

The Panthers scratched out three runs in the seventh inning but the Hilltoppers hung on for the 10-8 victory.

Eric Cooper got the win for Mount Pulaski. He worked four and two-thirds innings. He gave up five runs and four hits. He walked two and struck out four.

Luke Martin worked two innings. He gave up two runs on one hit. He walked three and struck out two.

Liam Smith gave up a hit, a run and a walk in his one-third of an inning pitched in relief.

Mount Pulaski had 10 hits versus the Panthers.

Carter Clark led Mount Pulaski offensively. He was 2-for-2 for four RBIs.

Chance Payne was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Aaron Volle was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Eric Cooper, Liam Smith, Preston Cowan and Tyler Cross each had one hit for Mount Pulaski.

Mount Pulaski improved to 3-2 on the season.
