Senator Sally Turner’s Cosponsored
Legislation to Protect the Mahomet Aquifer Passes in the Senate
[April 11, 2025]
Springfield, IL— State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason), a cosponsor
of Senate Bill 1723, released the following statement after the
Senate unanimously passed the legislation, which prohibits carbon
sequestration wells through the Mahomet Aquifer:
“The Mahomet Aquifer is the lifeblood of Central Illinois, providing
drinking water to a million people across our region. Protecting
this vital aquifer is one of the most important issues to the people
I represent.”

“This legislation is a critical step to ensure our communities have
access to safe, clean water and that we are not taking unnecessary
risks with such a vital natural resource. I’m grateful to see this
bill pass with bipartisan support, and I will continue to advocate
for strong protections for the Mahomet Aquifer.”
Senate Bill 1723 now moves to the House of Representatives for
further consideration.
