The Springfield Senators offense came alive for
13 hits and 12 runs on Tuesday at Mike Curry Field, sending
Lincoln away in defeat 12-1.
Lincoln’s only run scored came in the first inning as Ashton
Corley and Austin Lucas started the Lincoln half of the inning
with back-to-back doubles. Brody Scheffler struck out the next
three Railsplitters and continued to shut down Lincoln the rest
of the way. Lincoln was behind 4-1 after the first inning.
Lincoln only got two more hits off Scheffler in the game, with
Corley getting one more hit and Jadyn Gulley getting a hit.
The Senators totaled 13 hits on the day and scored in the
second, fourth and fifth innings.
Scheffler struck out 13 of the 20 batters he faced in the
five-inning game. He did not allow a single walk.
Austin Lucas took the loss for Lincoln. He worked three innings,
allowing six hits and seven runs. He walked three and struck out
one.
Tate Aue pitched two innings in relief. He gave up seven hits
and five runs. He struck out one.
