A handful of Railers had multiple hits but it
was Kelsey Marten crushing the ball for a double and a home run,
driving in a team-leading four runs in the game.
Morgan Sheley, Regan Kutz, Kate Farnam and Laurynn Mayberry had
two hits apiece for Lincoln.
Grey Gilbert’s single completed the offense.
A six-run third inning by the Railers was the difference in the
game.
Down 1-0 at the time, the inning started with a walk to Gilbert
and the bases were soon loaded after Sheley and Kutz each
singled. Marten’s two-run double gave Lincoln the lead and the
runs just kept crossing home plate. Farnam plated a run on a
fielder’s choice. Mayberry doubled in two more runs. Emma
Hutchison earned an RBI on a ground out, putting Lincoln up 6-1.
With the score 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning, Lincoln
plated three runs. Kutz had an RBI single and then she was able
to trot home on Marten’s home run to center. The 9-2 final score
was reached.
Madisen Wurth was the winning pitcher for Lincoln. She worked
seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs. Only one run was
earned. She walked one and struck out three.
Lincoln improved their record to 7-9 on the season.
The Railers will travel to Buffalo today to take on
Tri-City/Sangamon Valley/Mount Pulaski at 4:30 p.m.
