Mount Pulaski would defeat the Spartans easily
by a final score of 9-1.
The Hilltoppers went ahead 3-0 in that first inning after Aaron
Volle scored on a catcher’s error.
Mount Pulaski plated another run in the top of the third inning.
Payne, who had walked to lead off the inning, scored ahead of an
inning-ending double play to allow the Hilltoppers to go up 4-0.
Mount Pulaski blew the game open with four more runs in the top
of the fourth inning. Chase Roberts added an RBI single, Eric
Cooper slugged an RBI double, Liam Smith contributed a sacrifice
fly that scored a run and finally Cooper scored on a passed
ball.
Cooper scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning to
put Mount Pulaski up 9-0.
The Spartans scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth
inning when Aaron Volle hit three batters in the inning and
walked one.
Liam Smith took over on the mound for the Hilltoppers in the
seventh inning and he pitched a scoreless inning for Mount
Pulaski. Smith did walk a batter and strike out a batter in the
seventh.
Carter Clark picked up the win for the Hilltoppers. He threw
five innings, allowing one. He walked seven and struck out five.
Aaron Volle pitched one inning in relief of Clark. He allowed
one run, one walk and struck out one.
Mount Pulaski had five hits in the game, split among Eric
Cooper, Liam Smith, Chance Payne, Keoni Charron and Chase
Roberts.
