Obituary

James N. Benner, 83, of Broadwell, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation Rites have been accorded.

Burial will be at a later date in the Kline Cemetery in rural Broadwell.

James N. Benner was born on January 26, 1942, in Lincoln, the son of Clifford N. and Dorothy Jones Benner. He was united in marriage to Suzanne M. Verban on February 24, 1968, in Elkhart. She survives.

Also surviving are his sons: James Nathan (Jill) Benner and Gregory Cass (Lori) Benner; six grandchildren: Megan (Jonathan Shehorn) Benner, Jenna Benner, Michelle Benner, Robby Benner, Tyson Benner, and Amir Benner; and one great-grandchild: Jasper Shehorn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Kay Benner.

Jim graduated from Lincoln Community High School in 1960 and then Lincoln College. He then served in the United States Air Force. He was the owner of Benner Processing Plant in Broadwell, as well as Benner Construction Company.

James was of the Lutheran faith. He was a member of Lincoln Elks Lodge #914. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, fishing and cooking on the grill. He was always busy creating new things.

He also enjoyed wood working, welding, carpentry, building homes

Memorials may be made in his memory to Mike Rowe Works Foundation
