Oasis Fundraiser and Craft and Vendor Fair held during Balloons Over 66

[August 26, 2025]

The Oasis Senior Center hosted a Craft and Vendor Fair during the day on Saturday as part of the Balloons Over 66 weekend of events. Oasis volunteers also served lunch as a fundraiser for the senior center. This is one of several fundraisers that the Oasis holds throughout the year to support the senior center. The Oasis is one of very few senior centers in Illinois that is fully supported by fundraisers, donations, and grants with no monetary support coming from the government. Saturday’s lunch offered pulled pork, hot dogs, cole slaw, and chips, as well as slushies, popcorn and shaved ice.

Volunteers sold the food at the shed behind the center, where a covered seating area was also available. At the same time on Saturday, approximately 60 vendors from all over central Illinois lined the walking track at the back of the Oasis. A variety of merchandise was available for sale, everything from jewelry, pens, and crocheted toys to books, stickers, and woodworking. Informational booths from Senior Life Solutions and the upcoming National Railsplitting Festival were also available for perusal. The temperate weather encouraged a good crowd to linger along the track shopping and visiting.
