River City Opry plays farewell show December 11

[December 04, 2025]  Mason City, IL - On Thursday, December 11 River City Country Opry returns to the Arlee stage to wrap up their 2025 residency. This special show will be split into two parts- the first half focusing on the best Christmas hits with the band's special twist. Following intermission, "retired" band members and founder Stan Edwards, Mike the drummer, and Roger the fiddle player will return for a country-themed second set that's sure to have you up and dancing.

While the December show usually is the final one before the band's winter break, this time around it's the band's final (at least, for now) show with the Arlee. The band has members from all over Central Illinois, making the lengthy drive and spending a long day playing is becoming increasingly more difficult, and and finding quality subs to hop in when regular performers are unable to play single shows is a challenge. That, coupled with the Arlee's volunteer team having more difficulty with accommodating this extended schedule (especially on a school or work night), it just felt like the right time to end this monthly concert routine.

Venue manager Marcia notes, "I'm truly thankful for the nights that the band has brought this theater alive with music, and we hope that we can bring them back for single standalone shows that work out with everyone's schedule-- these monthly shows are a lot of work, but you can't deny how much of a presence they bring to downtown Mason City and frankly, I'm going to miss a lot of them. These guys are superb musicians and it's always an honor to host artists who play such an entertaining show."

This live concert begins at 6:30pm, with doors opening at 5:45. Concessions will be available, and tickets are $10 at the door (ages 12 and under are free). Early arrivals in town are encouraged to patronize any of the town's locally-owned eateries, including Subway and Do Drop In.

It is also worth noting stores Sweet Creek & Co (128 S. Tonica), Junior's General Store (153 E Chestnut), and The Hot Spot/ Elm Street Consignments (200 S. Main) are all within a block or two of the theater and offer unique shopping opportunities at reasonable prices, and are typically open Thursday afternoons/evenings (see their individual Facebook pages for details).
