Obituary
Ruth Young, 73, of Lincoln, IL,
passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Lincoln
Memorial Hospital.
Ruth was born on May 30, 1951, in Hardinsburg, KY.
The daughter of Thomas Joseph and Agnes "Ma"
Catherine (Alexander) O'Donoghue. She married
Michael Young on February 26, 1972 in Lincoln, IL
and celebrated 52 years of marriage. He survives.
Ruth is also survived by her daughter, Jodi (Zac)
Hopkins of Hartsburg, IL; her son, Luke Young of New
York, NY; her grandchildren, Tyler, Brode, Wyatt,
Garrett, and Cambelle; her siblings, Tom (Cyndie)
O'Donoghue, Mike (Mary) O'Donoghue, Q-Ball (Gail)
O'Donoghue, Jinx (Joe) Gleason, Dick (Myretta)
O'Donoghue, and Tim (Shirley) O'Donoghue;
sisters-in-law, Marsha (Allen) O’Donoghue, Judy
O'Donoghue, Lynn O'Donoghue, and Marsha (Ott)
O’Donoghue; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
four brothers, Punk, Pat, Denny, and Boone.
Ruth was a 1970 graduate of Lincoln Community High
School and worked several years at the Lincoln
Garment Factory and Eaton Corporation. She was a
devout member of Holy Family Catholic Church of
Lincoln, IL. |

She was a woman whose heart was as
big as her laugh. Ruth adored her children, always
making sure they knew how much they were loved and
talked about them whenever she had the chance. She
cherished being mams to her five grandchildren and
always made sure they were well-fed and was their
number one fan at basketball and volleyball games.
She found joy in the simple things—like a Diet Coke
in hand, an episode of The Andy Griffith Show, or
very loud banter with her husband, whom she loved
dearly. Ruth could—and would—talk to anyone,
anywhere, and often did, never missing a chance to
strike up a conversation. She was truly one of a
kind, and her presence will be forever missed by all
who knew her.
A Memorial Mass for Ruth will be held
at 10:00 am on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Holy
Family Catholic Church in Lincoln. Visitation will
take place the night prior, Thursday, February 6,
2025. A Rosary service will be held at 3:30 pm and
the visitation will follow from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Burial will follow the memorial mass at Holy Cross
Cemetery in Lincoln, IL. Memorial donations may be
made in Ruth’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research
