On Monday, January 27th, the Logan County
Voiture #985 of the Forty and Eight met at the American Legion Post
263 in Lincoln. The Forty and Eight is a veteran’s organization that
focuses on patriotic and charitable goals.

That
evening, they met with representatives of four Logan County food
banks to donate money. Several of the veterans present included
Vince Long, Gene Hickey, and Forty and Eight Treasurer Dan Benedict.
The veterans were finishing a meal and enjoying each other’s company
as they waited for 7:00 to roll around. As the time drew closer, the
food bank representatives began to arrive. These included Jim
Welschel and Tom Parks of the Atlanta Food Bank, Karen Petty of the
Holy Family Food Bank, Norman Newhouse of the Lincoln Logan Food
Pantry, and Gary Hawkins and Ivan Crawford with the Christian Church
Food Bank.

Long gave a short speech, sharing that their
organization usually donates to a single food bank each year.
Benedict had the idea this year to donate to multiple food banks.
Each food bank was then called up one by one and each presented with
a $200 check. Once all the checks had been presented, the entire
group then lined up for a photograph.
