Eugene “Gene” Tabor

[January 30, 2025]  NORMAL - Eugene “Gene” Tabor, 90, of Normal, formerly of Atlanta, passed away at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Visitation:  Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

Service:  10:30 a.m. following visitation

Obituary

Eugene “Gene” Tabor, 90, of Normal, formerly of Atlanta, passed away at McLean County Nursing Home in Normal on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Services for Gene will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude with Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Deborah J. Johnston will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

Edward Eugene Tabor was born September 22, 1934, the son of Edward and Madeline Atchison Tabor. He was united in marriage to Joy K. Sparks on December 27, 1981. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1986.

Gene is survived by his siblings: Duane (Sandy) Tabor, James (Brenda) Tabor, Karen (Bill) Horn, Lyle (Ruth) Tabor, Judith (Chuck Parks) Cook, and Mary Ellen Stevenson, and many nieces and nephews and their extended families.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Tabor; and two brothers in law: Russell Cook and Rick Stevenson.

Gene graduated from Eureka High School in 1953 and attended Eureka College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1959. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for Lincoln Sand & Gravel. He was a member of the Lincoln Sportsman’s Club and enjoyed bowling, fastpitch softball, and especially fishing.

Memorials may be made to the Atlanta United Methodist Church.
Gene’s family extends special thanks to the staff of McLean County Nursing Home and Transitions Hospice for the care they gave to him.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
