Obituary

Terry Wayne Scales, 77, left this world on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at his home in rural Monticello, Illinois. He was born on July 29, 1947 in Danville, IL, son of Delno Carlis and Optie (Adkins) Scales. Terry is survived by his wife Billie (King) Scales of Monticello and son Matt (Christine) Scales and two granddaughters, Sadie Corrin and Stella Kaye of Westmont, IL; brother Royce (Nancy) Scales of Lincoln, IL; sisters: Linda Darnell Scales Farmer of Brandon, MS and Elaine Blankenship of Mt. Zion, IL. Terry was preceded in death by parents, brother Larue Scales and sister ElFredia Scribner. He was a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews as well as great and great great nieces and nephews.

Terry and Billie were married on May 20, 1972 at Funks Grove, IL. They resided in Lincoln, IL until transferring to Monticello in 1994. Terry retired from General Telephone/Verizon where he worked in various positions over the years. He always enjoyed working whether it was on the job or on projects at home, and he was frustrated when his body no longer allowed him to do so. Among other things, he restored a 1938 Dodge Sedan, a 1972 VW Beetle, as well as painting and body work on vehicles for various friends. Terry was an outdoorsman, enjoying yard work as well as hunting in his earlier days. He always enjoyed the opportunity to lend a helping hand to others, which he frequently did. He’ll be missed by many.

The Celebration will begin at 1:30pm with a reception. There will be scheduled speakers at approximately 2:15pm. Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will follow with the event to end at 4:30pm.
