The Lady Toppers kept the Maroons at a decent
distance all night long and came away with the 52-41 victory.
“Our girls came to battle,” said McVickers. “We have been
playing really well right now and peaking at the right time.
Offensively we are sharing the ball. Defensively we are flying
around and finishing each possession with great box outs and
rebounds.”
Mount Pulaski’s 14-7 lead in the first quarter was ignited by a
trio of Toppers: Addison Brown, Alyson Murphy and Elayna Marten.
The three continued to lead the scoring in the second quarter
and by halftime the Mount Pulaski lead was 30-23. Murphy had 13
points at the half, Marten had eight points and Brown had two
3s. Audrey Cooper added three first-half points.
The Lady Toppers were able to hold the Maroons to a single free
throw and one three-point basket in the third quarter and thus
increase the lead to 38-27. Brown, Murphy, Marten and Cooper
each had a field goal for Mount Pulaski.
The fourth quarter was evenly matched in the scoring but with
Mount Pulaski capturing the lead early, they were able to get
the 52-41 victory over Clinton.
Mount Pulaski was 7-for-8 from the free throw line down the
stretch.
Alyson Murphy led Mount Pulaski with 24 points.
Addison Brown added 13 points and Elayna Marten finished with 10
points.
The Lady Toppers improve to 18-7 on the season.
Mount Pulaski won the JV game 21-19 over Clinton. Mackenzie
Johnston led Mount Pulaski with 13 points.
Mount Pulaski will host Decatur Eisenhower on Thursday and
celebrate Senior Night. The JV game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The Varsity will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
