Eleven Illinois Communities
Receive Grants for Lincoln-Related Projects
Almost a dozen new projects are coming
to Illinois, helping interpret the life and times of Abraham
Lincoln.

Eleven entities have been awarded grants from
the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area, also known as Looking
for Lincoln. The funds are designated for creating or refreshing
exhibits in museums or visitor centers, creating digital
interpretive projects, developing lesson plans, or interpreting
other aspects of their Lincoln-era stories.
Each organization submitted a proposal that was reviewed by a team
of historians and staff of Looking for Lincoln, and was awarded
based on their project’s lasting impact on presenting the story of
Lincoln’s life and times.
Winning entities and communities include:
Atlanta Public Museum, Atlanta
City of Charleston, Charleston
Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County, Quincy
Jacksonville Area Museum, Jacksonville
LaSalle County Historical Society, LaSalle
Lincoln Heritage Museum, Lincoln
Lincoln Log Cabin Foundation, Lerna
Macomb Convention and Visitors Bureau,
Macomb
McLean County Museum of History, Bloomington
Metamora Association for Historic Preservation, Metamora
Quincy Underground Railroad Museum at the Rickeard and Jane Eells
House, Quincy

these organization’s projects will have a lasting impact on the
understanding of Lincoln’s life and times.

The Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition is the coordinating
entity for the 43-county Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area.
It is a partnership of organizations and individuals dedicated
to enhancing the communities and landscapes of central Illinois
through recognition and support of their significant natural,
cultural, and historical legacies. Few individuals have so
profoundly influenced American history as did Abraham Lincoln.
Millions around the world are inspired by the story of Lincoln’s
rise from humble beginnings to President of the United States,
his qualities of integrity and courage and his decisive
leadership – traits that carried a fragile nation through one of
its most trying periods. The Abraham Lincoln National Heritage
Area is a proud member of The National Heritage Area System of
the National Park Service.
