| The Amazing Dudley performed his
magic tricks in the Lincoln Public Library annex Thursday, July 10.

			 Before the program started Youth
Services Library Director Donna Cunningham reminded the children to
turn in their reading logs as the summer program will soon end.
Reading program shirts will be ready sometime in August.

As the Amazing Dudley started his
program, he reminded the kids to sit down, pay attention and have a
good time. He said the better the kids acted, the more magic he
would do.The Amazing Dudley said his first magic wand was a bubble wand. The
wand made bubbles, so he blew them around the room. To produce a lot
more bubbles, he used a bubble machine. He told the kids who caught
bubbles to throw them in a pouch.

The kids pretended to throw bubbles
and when the Amazing Dudley opened the pouch, he pulled out a clear
			ball.
Next, the Amazing Dudley got out a yellow scarf, water and a cup.
When he placed the cup under the scarf and then pulled the scarf
off, there was blue water in the cup.

For his next trick, the Amazing Dudley chose a volunteer named
Ronan. The kids were told to yell out, “I love to read.” He took out
a magic fan, but when he handed the fan to Ronan and Ronan held it,
the fan appeared to be broken no matter how Ronan held it.

The Amazing Dudley said he chose
Ronan because not only was Ronan paying attention and having a good
time, but there was also a little fuzzy on Ronan’s shoulder.
As the Amazing Dudley went to take the fuzzy off Ronan’s shoulder, a
little red ball appeared on Ronan’s shoulder. Ronan was asked to
blow on the ball, and the ball somehow ended up in Amazing Dudley’s
			pocket instead of disappearing.

After Ronan blew on the ball again,
the Amazing Dudley then had two red balls, which he called Miney and
Moe. The balls ended up back in Amazing Dudley’s pocket, but he took
them out for everyone to see.
When Ronan held both Miney and Moe and squeezed his hands together,
there were then three red balls, which the Amazing Dudley decided to
			call Miney, Moe and Bob.

The Amazing Dudley said he planned to try something impossible, and
his untied shoelace got tied without him touching his shoe. He
talked to everyone about the summer program theme oceans of
possibilities which can unlock many things as they learn new skills.

For a little game, Amazing Dudley
had placed six bags of different colors on a shelf. He put a die in
a cup and shook the cup, and hit it with his magic wand, then had
someone take the die out and tell him the number on the die.
The number five was on the die, so the Amazing Dudley lifted up bag
number five, which had a dollar under it. The next die someone
pulled out was one, so the Amazing Dudley picked up bag number one
and it had one hundred dollars under it. When the number four was
rolled, that bag also had money under it.

The Amazing Dudley’s next trick was
cookie boogie. He said he bought an oven from Temu, but it was not
quite what he expected. The Amazing Dudley put a cardboard cookie
into a box that was supposed to be the oven. There were two doors on
the box, and he told everyone if he opens the doors too soon, the
cookie will not be done yet, so it will disappear.
When the Amazing Dudley opened the box, the cookie had disappeared.
The kids told him to open the other door, but there was no cookie on
that side either. As he moved the box back and forth, the kids said
they could see the cookie going from side to side. However, when the
Amazing Dudley opened both doors on the box, there was still no
			cookie inside.

				 Youth Services
Librarian Miss E was asked to help find the cookie. The kids saw
the cookie in her back pocket, but then the cookie fell out of
her pocket and landed on the floor. The kids grabbed the cookie,
and the Amazing Dudley soon found the cookie on the floor.

The Amazing Dudley said you can
learn new skills that will open up oceans of possibilities. He asked
the kids what they wanted to learn about. One said he wanted to
learn about a circle and a square, so the Amazing Dudley said he
must want to learn about shapes.
Another kid wanted to learn about magic tricks. The Amazing Dudley
said at the library, you can learn about card tricks by reading
books about magic. He loved going to the section with books about
			magic when he was younger.

One skill you can level up on in the oceans of possibilities is
reading aloud. When the Amazing Dudley asked how many liked to read
aloud, several kids raised their hands. Reading aloud can help
prepare kids for going back to school.

			 Holding up cards with different
shapes on the back, the Amazing Dudley asked for a volunteer. A
volunteer named Grace chose a card with a circle on it, and he said
she would learn the skill of reading aloud.
There were three more bags on the shelf, so the Amazing Dudley
rolled the die again. Number six was on the die and when he pulled
up bag six, there was a five dollar bill under it. When number three
was chosen and he lifted up bag three, it had a one dollar bill
			under it.
For the Amazing Dudley’s next trick, he did an optical illusion. He
said with optical illusions, your brain does not know how to process
			what you are seeing.

The Amazing Dudley put on glasses with a spiral pattern on them. He
held a black and white spiral and spun it around. Everyone was asked
to stare at the middle of the spiral as he spun it around, then
count backwards from ten. He asked those who felt like they were in
a tunnel to raise their hands. Several kids raised their hands as
they kept staring at the spiral.
After the kids had counted down, the Amazing Dudley asked them to
look at his head. The kids said his head appeared to be smaller.
Some adults said his head appeared to be huge then shrunk back to
			normal size.
Volunteer Theron was chosen to help
and got to wear the glasses. The Amazing Dudley again spun the
spiral and had everyone focus on the middle of it. When the kids
counted down from ten this time, they looked at Theron’s head and
said it appeared to be larger than usual. The Amazing Dudley said
Theron must have a big head because of all the books he was reading
			for the summer program.

Next up was a card trick. The
Amazing Dudley took a deck of cards, then chose an adult named
Debbie to cut the cards and take one out of the deck. Debbie pulled
out the card with the six of diamonds, which she was asked to show
to everyone but the Amazing Dudley, who had his back turned.
Going back to bags on the shelf, the Amazing Dudley opened bag two,
which was green. The bag had a note in it with the words open me at
			the end on the front.

Another volunteer was asked to read
the note, which the Amazing Dudley said he had written.

			 The note said: “Good afternoon.
Thank you for supporting the summer reading at your library and for
coming to the Amazing Dudley Magic Show. I stayed up way too late
last night because I was thinking about this magic show. I had a
crazy dream about things for my magic show. Someone will roll the
die and pick the green bag last. You will pick the six of diamonds.
			Someone will choose the circle.”
Everything from the Amazing Dudley’s crazy dream happened just as he
			predicted in the note.

When the magic show was done, the Amazing Dudley thanked everyone
for coming out to the program.
