| Though the official start date of
the 89th Annual Logan County Fair would not be until Tuesday, July
29th, 2025, 4-H youth had a very busy morning on Monday with the
			General Projects judging.
This year, the youth saw the return of everyone gathering at the
same time starting at 9 a.m. In the years since Covid-19 the kids
had been scheduled to come in at specific time slots according to
the club with which they belonged.

That made somewhat for organized chaos in the general projects barn,
but it was a happy chaos as youth and adults had the opportunity to
see one another, compare notes on what they had brought, and watch
as others were facing the judges.

In the field crop and vegetable crop categories, numbers were
definitely down this year, but the quality of the product might have
			been at an all-time high.

In the field corn judging the tall
stalk entries were dominated by the Hassebrock kids. Makia, Kianna,
and Kenley, all representing Middletown 4-Hers, had entries to be
			judged.
With the numbers being smaller, the judges had plenty of time to
judge each entry and speak with the youth, asking questions, and
offering helpful tips for the projects they might enter next year.

In the vegetable crops there were
only a few entries, but Logan County Extension educator Jennifer
			Fishburn scrutinized each carefully.
She also spent a good deal of time with each of the entrants,
discussing their growing methods along with their harvesting and
			storage techniques.

In the end. All the kids walked
away happy with a fistful of blue ribbons to add to their
			collection. [Nila Smith]
