Obituary
Shirley Jean Stauffer, 82, of
Chestnut, IL., passed away on Thursday, May 29,
2025, at her home.
Shirley was born on August 4, 1942, in Leora, MO,
the daughter of Charles M. and Alice M.(Gill)
Newell. She married James Allen Stauffer on June 4,
1960 in Chestnut, IL. He preceded her death on June
15, 2002.
Shirley is survived by her children: Jacqueline
McDougall, Jessie (Tim) Butler, Jamie (Scott)
Johnston, Dan (Tina) Rusk, Cassie Rennick, Trish
Haynes, and Renee Stauffer; one sister Glenda Bell;
and one brother; Eldon Newell. She is also survived
by 26 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her
husband, Jim.
Shirley was a former member of the
Methodist Church in Chestnut and current member of
the Methodist Church in Mt. Pulaski. |

Shirley enjoyed gardening and
quilting, and was a farm wife and enjoyed driving
the grain truck while helping her husband Jim on the
family farm. She was a member of the Quilters at
Heart Guild in Lincoln and as a side hobby, she was
an “amateur architect” for her family.
Services for Shirley will take place at 11:00 A.M.
on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mt. Pulaski.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services,
(10:00-11:00 A.M.) also at the funeral home. Burial
will follow at Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Memorials may
be made in her memory to either the Mt. Pulaski
Methodist Church or Chestnut EMS
