The Champaign Central Maroons won the Class 3A
regional championship over Lincoln at Spaulding Park in
Champaign on Saturday by a final score of 10-0.
The Maroons scored six runs in the first inning off starter
Carson Fuiten and Lincoln could not recover against a very solid
team from Champaign.
The Maroons added three runs in the bottom of the third inning
and shut the door on the Railsplitters season with a run in the
fourth inning.
The Maroons had 12 hits while Lincoln managed just one hit, a
lead off single by Austin Lucas in the top of the fourth inning.
Fuiten was relieved after two outs in the first inning. He
surrendered seven hits.
Parker Graue took the mound in relief in the first inning and he
worked two and one-third innings, allowing four runs on five
hits. Only two runs were earned. He struck out two batters.
Bryce Vlahovich worked one inning, pitching out of a jam in the
bottom of the fourth. He inherited a runner at first and left
him stranded after recording the last three outs on pop flies.
Patrick Kennedy struck out the side for the Maroons in the top
of the fifth inning and he earned the win in the five-inning
game. Kennedy struck out nine Railsplitters.
Lincoln finished the season with a 16-17 record.
