Obituary
Eldon Hertzfeldt, 86, and Linda
Winkelmann, 74, both of Chestnut, died Friday, May
30, 2025, as a result of injuries sustained in a
tragic automobile accident.
Visitation for both will be from 5–7 PM Sunday, June
8, 2025, at Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday, June 9,
2025, also at the funeral home. Burial for Eldon
will follow in New Union Cemetery.
Eldon was born February 8, 1939, in Lincoln, IL, the
son of Victor and Era (Cook) Hertzfeldt. He was the
last surviving member of his immediate family and
was preceded in death by his parents and his
brother, Larry Hertzfeldt.
Linda Kay Winkelmann was born October 19, 1950, in
Springfield, IL, the daughter of Robert and Doris
(Snyder) Jennings. She is survived by her son Robert
(Carly) Winkelmann, daughter Kimberly Winkelmann,
grandchildren Camden Winkelmann and Macyn Winkelmann,
and siblings Randy (Sherry) Jennings, Larry Joe
Jennings, and Judy (Delmar) McGinnis. She was
preceded in death by her parents and brothers Danny
Jennings and Rick Jennings.
Linda and Eldon shared the last 15
years of their lives together, building a bond full
of joy, companionship, and shared interests. They
loved traveling to Branson, Missouri, where they
enjoyed attending live shows and soaking up the
vibrant atmosphere. A few days each week, they
gathered with friends for breakfast at McDonald’s
and also at Country Aire in Atlanta, where their
laughter and stories brightened many mornings. |

The couple also shared a love of
playing cards and spent countless evenings over the
years enjoying games and good company with their
close-knit circle of friends and family. They both
cherished time with their grandchildren and enjoyed
attending their events. Family gatherings brought
them great happiness, and they treasured the time
spent with loved ones.
Linda also had a special love for caring for
houseplants. Her home was always filled with
greenery, and she took pride in nurturing her
plants—each one a reflection of her patience and
gentle spirit.
Eldon enjoyed fishing and was known for his
storytelling—recounting tales from the past that
always entertained those around him.
They will both be deeply missed by their family and
many friends who will remember their kindness,
humor, and the love they shared with each other and
those around them.
