RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — An off-duty Washington State Patrol
trooper was arrested following a crash that killed a
motorcyclist Saturday, authorities said.
The trooper, who was not identified, was driving her own vehicle
at the time of the collision in Richland, Washington, the State
Patrol said in a statement.
The Richland Police Department said the trooper was arrested on
suspicion of vehicular homicide while driving under the
influence. The investigation into the crash is continuing and
the results will be given to prosecutors, it said.
Richland police took over the investigation into the crash once
it was determined that the driver involved was a trooper.
Washington State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste offered his
condolences to the victim and their loved ones.
"We are reminded in times like these that law enforcement
officers are not immune from tragedy nor from personal
accountability, and we urge all motorists to always drive with
focus, care, and caution," he said in a statement.
