Obituary
Danny R. Wheat, 81, of Lincoln,
passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Copper
Creek Cottage in Lincoln.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, March
8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery with Rev. Joseph Dondanville officiating.
A Celebration of Life service will follow at the
Knights of Columbus Council #1250 in Lincoln from
11:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Danny Ray Wheat was born on August 24, 1943, in San
Jose, Illinois, the son of Harold L. and Mary
Sackett Wheat. He was united in marriage to Marilyn
J. Lumpp on April 28, 1962. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughters: Lisa (Paul) Pierce
and Dana (Roger) Krabbe; three grandchildren: Teale
Pierce, Danielle (Brian) Hoeynck, and Ryan (Mary
Hugenberg) Krabbe; one sister: Susie (Jim) Evans;
and four brothers: Dave (Carol) Wheat, Jim (Judy)
Wheat, Bill (Kim) Wheat and Steve (Debbie) Wheat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one
brother: Larry Sackett, and three sisters: Louise
Miller, Jeanne Newlun, and Mary Kay Jockisch.

Danny graduated from the San Jose
High School in 1961. He retired from the State of
Illinois as an engineer at the Lincoln Development
Center Power Plant. He also was employed at M & M
Vending for many years.
He was a member of Holy Family
Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1250
where he was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight, Lincoln
Elks Lodge #914 for over 50 years, and Humane
Society of Logan County. He was a precinct committee
man with the Republican party for many years.
In his younger years, Danny played fast-pitch
softball with the champion team Lincoln Road Runners
in 1969. He refereed basketball for over 30 years in
Logan County.
Memorials may be made to Humane Society of Logan
County.
