Obituary
Donald E. Simmons, 87, of
Middletown, passed away February 23, 2025 at his
home.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Holland Barry
& Bennett Funeral Home. A memorial visitation will
be held Friday, March 7, 2025 at Holland Barry &
Bennett Funeral Home from 5-7 PM. Graveside services
will be held at a later date in Irish Grove
Cemetery.
Donald was born June 15, 1937, in Mason City, IL.,
the son of William Simmons and Fannie (Tackman)
Simmons. His wife Betty Simmons receded him in death
in 1997. He worked for more than 40 years at Farers
Grain Company in Mason City. Donald enjoyed
gardening, fishing, playing pranks on his family,
and was a gifted storyteller.
Survivors include his daughter Martha Simmons (Ken
Gill); stepchildren Carl Ross (Tina) and Marvin
Ross; grandchildren Amber Simmons (Ryan Gleason) and
Zac Gill; step grandchildren: Michelle, Eddie,
Betsy, Clayton, Chad, and Caitie; great grandson
Owen; 17 step great grandchildren; and brother Joe
Simmons. |
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife,
daughter and son in law Diana and Edward Huffman; 1
sister, and 9 brothers.
Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society
of Logan County and will be accepted at the funeral
home.
