Kraig E. Sullivan was born February 12, 1961, in Lincoln, the son of Clifford “Sonny” and Linda Werth Sullivan. He was united in marriage to Denise Bent on August 14, 1982, at Lincoln Christian Church.

Kraig is survived by his wife, Denise; children: Kraig E. (Danielle) Sullivan, Jr. and Kristin (Josh Edwards, fiancé) Sullivan, grandchildren: Emma Schaich, Andrew Edwards, and Zakk Edwards; siblings: Kyle (Yvonda) Sullivan and Kim (Rob) Hall; a nephew who was like a son, Mark Bent, fur-daughter Callie, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are two of his dearest friends whom he cherished: Richard Luster and RayDean Treuthart.

He was preceded in death by his father, and fur-babies Belle and Lexie.

Kraig was a 1979 graduate of Lincoln Community High School and then attended Lincoln Land Community College. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant from the Illinois Department of Corrections after 32 years, where he also served as a Range Instructor and TACT team member. He had worked for Ag-Land FS, Ferrell Gas, and mowed yards. Kraig served on the National Wild Turkey Foundation Board and as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for several precincts. He was a 33rd Degree Master Mason with memberships of the Lincoln Masonic Lodge #210, Logan County Shrine, an Ansar Shrine member, and Valley of Springfield, IL Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite NMJ where he served as scholarship chairman for 13 years. Kraig was incredibly active in the community and a friend to all. He drove the church bus for many years for various programs and was a member of the Jolly Seniors. He was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club and coached Little League.

For 54 years, Kraig was a faithful member of Lincoln Christian Church, living his life as a devout Christian, doing devotions daily and praying with his wife every night. His heart was as big as his bear hugs - hugs that brought warmth and comfort to everyone fortunate enough to receive one.

An avid outdoorsman, he cherished hunting and fishing trips with his Dad, Grandpa, brother, wife, children, and family and friends, making lifelong memories in the great outdoors. He loved hunting with his family so much, he made sure their permits were applied for in the first lottery so everyone would be there - especially his brother who may not always remember.

His love for family was at the center of his life, and he had a special fondness for babies, and played the role of second dad for many of his children's friends and his nephew.

Always the prankster, Kraig filled every room with joy. Whether it was telling jokes, heckling, or playing tricks - especially playing a lifelong game of hide and seek with his infamous mouse with his wife, or monkey with his mother - his playful spirit kept those around him smiling.

He was a protector, a provider, and a man who put others first. His generosity knew no bounds, and Kraig was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

A passionate traveler, Kraig loved nothing more than taking vacations with his family. He especially cherished going on cruises with his beloved wife and sharing adventures while creating memories on the open sea.

One of his greatest joys was his family and he was immensely proud of them. He couldn't wait for the day he would walk his baby girl down the aisle, a moment he looked forward to with great love and anticipation.

Though he is no longer with us, his love, laughter, and legacy will live on forever in the hearts of those he held dear.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s St. Louis Hospital or Children’s Dyslexia Center of Springfield (a Charity of Scottish Rite Freemasonry).

Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln.
