Judy Kay (Berglin) Awe, 78, of Lincoln, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Judy was born on February 26, 1947, in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of Jack and Norma Jean (Ritchhart) Berglin. She married James “Ted” Awe on March 17, 1968, in Lincoln. He survives.

Judy is also survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Steve “Spanky”) Prince; her siblings, Jerry (Mary) Berglin, John (Beth) Berglin, Janice (Dr. Don) Sielaff, Jay (Kalyn) Berglin, and Joseph (Norma) Berglin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Judy was very active in several boards and organizations including, Zonta Club of Lincoln, Lincoln Land Community Concert Association, Logan County Chapter of American Cancer Society, Homemakers Extension Association, Election Judge, and The Christmas Tree Project; Lincoln High School Foundation and Golden Fund Scholarship; Lincoln Woman’s Club, and the Festival of Trees Committee.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she had served as congregation chairperson, on the Finance and Hostess Committee, a Chairperson of Pause for Power, Wednesday Evening Meal Program, and as Coordinator of Personal Development Ministries in the Women’s Missionary Society. Judy also was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Director, and spent six years on the Regional Board of Managers for American Baptist Churches of Great Rivers Region.

Besides her community and church involvement, Judy also held positions at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and Memorial Medical Healthcare Systems. She was a certified hospice volunteer and had served as Chairperson of the Hospice Advisory Council.

She was an active auxiliary member for 25 years, and had served on the hospital board of trustees. In Springfield at Memorial Medical Healthcare System, she had served on the Board of Directors as secretary for the Visiting Nurses Association.

In 1991, Judy was instrumental in publishing the Ritchhart Family Cookbook. The cookbook was filled with family recipes and the family tree. The sales topped 4,000 copies being sold. The profit earned was donated to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to purchase six Lifeline units to be used for Logan County residents needing that service. Grandmother Ritchhart benefitted from that program several years prior to her passing. Due to popular demand eventually a second family cookbook was made. She also helped with many other cookbooks throughout the community.
