Obituary
Judy Kay (Berglin) Awe, 78, of
Lincoln, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 13,
2025, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Judy was born on February 26, 1947, in Lincoln, IL,
the daughter of Jack and Norma Jean (Ritchhart)
Berglin. She married James “Ted” Awe on March 17,
1968, in Lincoln. He survives.
Judy is also survived by her daughter, Jennifer
(Steve “Spanky”) Prince; her siblings, Jerry (Mary)
Berglin, John (Beth) Berglin, Janice (Dr. Don)
Sielaff, Jay (Kalyn) Berglin, and Joseph (Norma)
Berglin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Judy was very active in several boards and
organizations including, Zonta Club of Lincoln,
Lincoln Land Community Concert Association, Logan
County Chapter of American Cancer Society,
Homemakers Extension Association, Election Judge,
and The Christmas Tree Project; Lincoln High School
Foundation and Golden Fund Scholarship; Lincoln
Woman’s Club, and the Festival of Trees Committee.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she
had served as congregation chairperson, on the
Finance and Hostess Committee, a Chairperson of
Pause for Power, Wednesday Evening Meal Program, and
as Coordinator of Personal Development Ministries in
the Women’s Missionary Society. Judy also was a
Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Director,
and spent six years on the Regional Board of
Managers for American Baptist Churches of Great
Rivers Region.
Besides her community and church involvement, Judy
also held positions at Abraham Lincoln Memorial
Hospital and Memorial Medical Healthcare Systems.
She was a certified hospice volunteer and had served
as Chairperson of the Hospice Advisory Council.

She was an active auxiliary member
for 25 years, and had served on the hospital board
of trustees. In Springfield at Memorial Medical
Healthcare System, she had served on the Board of
Directors as secretary for the Visiting Nurses
Association.
In 1991, Judy was instrumental in
publishing the Ritchhart Family Cookbook. The
cookbook was filled with family recipes and the
family tree. The sales topped 4,000 copies being
sold. The profit earned was donated to the Abraham
Lincoln Memorial Hospital Auxiliary to purchase six
Lifeline units to be used for Logan County residents
needing that service. Grandmother Ritchhart
benefitted from that program several years prior to
her passing. Due to popular demand eventually a
second family cookbook was made. She also helped
with many other cookbooks throughout the community.
Funeral Services for Judy will be held at 11:00 am
on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at First Baptist
Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place the
night prior, Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 3:00 -
7:00 pm also at the church. Burial will follow the
service at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln. Memorials
may be made in Judy’s name to Moms Who Care-Lincoln.
