Mount Pulaski’s season ends early at State

[March 24, 2025]  The Mount Pulaski Honeybears season ended in the quarterfinals on Friday night at the IESA 8th Grade Class 2A State Tournament in Auburn.

Champaign St. Matthew defeated the Honeybears in three sets.

After a 28-26 set one thriller won by Mount Pulaski, the Raiders came back to win the next two sets 25-16 and 25-20.

Ella Martin led Mount Pulaski with 17 kills. She also had 10 digs and 5 aces.

Maebri Bender had 30 assists and 5 aces.

Kaylyn Eskew had 9 kills and 5 digs.

Haylee Cowan had 7 digs and 4 aces.

The Honeybears ended the season with a 17-4 record.

There was understandable disappointment following the early exit from the tournament, however, Coach Hannah Cameron and her coaching staff have a lot to look forward to as these eighth graders make the move to high school next season.

“This team holds a close place in our hearts,” said Coach Cameron. “They have transformed immensely in the last two years. We are very proud of them.”

Bunker Hill Wolf Ridge won the state title. Normal Metcalf finished in second place and Champaign St. Matthew finished third.
