West Lincoln Broadwell 8th Grade volleyball team takes second at State

[March 24, 2025]  The Wolverines volleyball team brought home the second place trophy on Saturday night from the IESA 8th Grade Class 1A State Tournament in Kankakee.
 
“The team had goals to make it back to State and come home with a championship after going undefeated last season as seventh graders,” said Coach Angela Craig. “We chipped away game by game with big wins, and although they did have two losses going into the postseason, this made them stronger than ever to get to where we wanted to be."

"Ending the season on a loss is a tough experience, but we have to reflect on how we got here. I told the girls this is just a chapter in their books of life with so many more still to write. The future for Lincoln Lady Railer volleyball is bright!”

The Wolverines defeated Washington St. Patrick in two sets during Friday’s quarterfinals, 25-16 and 25-21.

Olivia Woodhall led the team with 11 kills.

On Saturday the Wolverines got past LaSalle Trinity Catholic in the semifinals, but it took three sets. WLB lost the first set 20-25 but then came back to win 25-21 and 25-13.

Sage Gilbert and Grace Bivin were both unstoppable at the net.

Gilbert tallied a team-leading 16 kills and Grace Bivin added 14 kills to push the Wolverines into the state championship match.

Carrollton St. John defeated WLB 25-20 and 25-20 to take the state championship on Saturday afternoon.

Grace Bivin and Sage Gilbert each had 8 kills for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines finished the season in second place with a 25-3 record.
