Lincoln loses 4-3 in extras to Sacred Heart-Griffin

[March 26, 2025]  It was a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday at Schweitzer Field as Sacred Heart-Griffin’s McKenna Norris hit a home run in the top of the eighth inning that would go on to be the deciding run in a 4-3 contest.

Lincoln fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning as the Cyclones put together two doubles and a walk for their offense.

The Railsplitters were able to score a run in the bottom of the first inning on two errors, cutting the lead in half.

In the bottom of the third inning, Lincoln tied the game 2-2 after Grey Gilbert reached on an error and scored on a ground out by Regan Kutz.

The top of the fourth inning saw the Cyclones reclaim the lead on a single and a double.

By the time the bottom of the fifth inning rolled around the Lincoln girls were ready to tie the game again. Emma Hutchison drew a lead off walk and Gilbert and Kutz put together singles to make it a 3-3 game.

Norris was the second batter of the eighth inning and she swung at the first pitch to break the tie. The ball traveled to center field on a line drive for a home run.

Lincoln’s half of the eighth inning was over too quickly and the 4-3 loss was in the books.
