Railsplitters defeat Dunlap 6-3

[March 28, 2025]  The Lincoln Railsplitters were back in the win column on Thursday afternoon, picking up a 6-3 victory over the Dunlap Eagles.

Lincoln started the game by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Lead-off hitter Ashton Corley reached on an error and Austin Lucas followed with a single. Parker Graue added a single to drive Corley home and then Karson Komnick hit a grounder to second that allowed Lucas to score.

Lincoln took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third when Corley scored on a double by Drew Hayes. Corley had walked to start the inning and he advanced to second on the sacrifice bunt by Lucas.

Good things happen when Corley leads off an inning.

Leading off in the top of the fifth, Corley made contact with a 1-2 pitch and sent it to left field for a double. He scored on a single by Hayes and the Railsplitters found themselves up 4-0.

It was Griffin Shaw’s turn to lead off the top of the sixth inning for Lincoln and he delivered a single to center. With one out, Owen Comstock and Carson Fuiten each reached on singles to load the bases for Lincoln. Fuiten’s single was an impressive bunt to the third base side. With Corley at the plate, Shaw would score on a wild pitch. Once Corley got a pitch to hit, he smacked it hard to center and this sent Comstock home. Lincoln was retired in the inning on a double play but the 6-0 lead was still satisfactory on the scoreboard.

Two singles and an error in the bottom of the sixth inning did allow the Eagles to plate two runs.

Three singles and a run by the Eagles made things a little interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning but after a line out to Corley in center field and a pop fly in foul territory to Kyle Koehler, it was game over for the Eagles.

Lincoln hangs on to win the game 6-3, improving their record to 2-2 on the season.

Lincoln had nine hits in the game.

Ashton Corley continues to tear the cover off the ball. He was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Drew Hayes is swinging a hot bat. He was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Austin Lucas, Parker Graue, Griffin Shaw, Owen Comstock and Carson Fuiten each had base hits for Lincoln.

Austin Lucas earned the win for Lincoln. He worked six and one-third innings, allowing five hits and three runs. He walked three and struck out four.

Carson Fuiten worked two-thirds of an inning, preserving the win with a save. He allowed one hit.

Lincoln will play a double header at Eureka on Saturday. Game one will start at 11:00 a.m. Game two is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
