Bridge painting at Elkhart
interchange over Interstate 55 begins May 5
[May 03, 2025]
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois
Department of Transportation announced that bridge painting on the
bridge carrying County Highway 10 over Interstate 55 at the Elkhart
interchange begins Monday, May 5.
Lane closures on Interstate 55 will be necessary to perform the
repairs. Message boards, signs and temporary traffic signals will be
used to direct traffic. Benefits from this project include
preserving the lifespan of the bridge. The project is expected to be
completed in late September.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips
through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of
alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay
close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones,
obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and
be alert for workers and equipment.
