Friday, May 2, fifth grade students from District 27
school Northwest, Washington Monroe and Central performed monologues
in period costumes portraying various individuals from the Civil War
era at the Lincoln Heritage Museum. This year was the tenth year for
the event and many from the community came to see the talented
performers and learn more about the Civil War.
For the past several weeks, fifth graders from each school
researched and prepared for the annual Civil War walk. Each student
chose a civil war figure then researched the significance and the
character and wrote a brief piece to share at the walk.

Museum Director Ron Keller said this year, a grant from the Looking
for Lincoln organization helped purchase some of the costumes.
Teachers have also saved costumes from previous years.

Weaver and Mrs. Bossingham’s classes at Washington Monroe performed
			their monologues.
The final group, which performed at 1:00, included forty two
students from Mrs. Laubenstein, Mrs. Alley and Mrs. White’s classes
			at Central School.

The students worked hard to get ready for the Civil War walk and
they did a great job portraying the characters.
