Athens over Mount Pulaski 5-2

[May 08, 2025]   The Athens Warriors held the Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers scoreless for six innings Wednesday night.  

 

Mount Pulaski did not score a run until the top of the seventh inning when Luke Martin led off with a double and Aaron Volle followed with a single. Preston Cowan drove in the Hilltoppers first run on a sacrifice fly to center field. The Hilltoppers were able to score another run after three consecutive walks.

Cody Tobias pitched to one batter in the seventh inning, retiring Liam Smith with two runners aboard.

The Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the second inning after three hits and an error.

Athens added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Luke Martin took the loss for Mount Pulaski. Martin worked four innings, allowing three runs on three hits. He walked five and struck out seven.

Aaron Volle pitched an inning in relief. He allowed one hit and two runs. He walked two and struck out one.

Liam Smith pitched an inning, allowing one walk and striking out two.

Davis Ishmael earned the win for Athens. He worked six and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and two runs. He struck out 12 Hilltoppers.

Mount Pulaski’s record is now 16-4.

The Hilltoppers will host Pawnee on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
