The Hilltoppers went ahead 6-0 in the third
inning with Chance Payne, Luke Martin and Carter Clark each
offering up RBI singles and Aaron Volle coming through with a
two-run double. Tyler Cross plated a run on a fielder’s choice
and Mount Pulaski was cruising early.
Small-ball was getting the job done as Mount Pulaski used three
singles and a walk to go up 8-0 in the fourth inning. Martin’s
two-run single was responsible for the 8-0 lead. Martin scored
on an error to run the score to 9-0.
Clark ended things abruptly in the bottom of the sixth inning
with an RBI single, giving Mount Pulaski the 10-0 win.
Eric Cooper got the win for Mount Pulaski. He was fantastic on
the mound, throwing a one-hitter and striking out two batters in
six innings. The only hit allowed was a bunt single in the top
of the fourth inning. The runner was erased in a double play to
end that inning.
The Hilltoppers were successful at the plate, pounding out 13
hits.
Cooper led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. He
scored twice.
Chance Payne, Luke Martin, Aaron Volle and Carter Clark each had
two hits.
Liam Smith and Preston Cowan each added one hit.
The Hilltoppers take their 17-4 record to Tri-City today to play
the Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m.
