Cardinals hit grand slam in extras to beat Railsplitters 8-4

[May 15, 2025]  Charlie Severino of the Pleasant Plains Cardinals hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning off Lincoln reliever Tate Aue to get the 8-4 win on Wednesday night.

The Railsplitters had a 3-2 lead for a couple innings until the Cardinals tied the score in the bottom of the sixth inning. Each team scored a run in the seventh to send the game into extra innings.

After Pleasant Plains took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Railsplitters came back with a run on an RBI double by Karson Komnick in the second inning.

Drew Hayes tied the game in the third inning on a single that scored Ashton Corley. Griffin Shaw hit in the go-ahead run with a single to right that scored Hayes.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single off Carson Fuiten.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Corley hit his fourth home run in as many games, giving Lincoln the 4-3 lead.

The Cardinals scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning on two singles and an error, all with two outs.

The Cardinals used two singles and an intentional walk to load the bases with two outs for Severino in the bottom of the eighth inning. Severino’s grand slam came on a 1-1 pitch that traveled over the center field fence on a line drive.

That’s a tough way to lose an 8-4 ballgame.
